Diana E Kennedy is an award-winning professional photographer with a background in the Life Sciences and Fine Art. Since childhood she has travelled the world, gaining insight into different cultures, maintaining a very real and constant sense of excitement about all the planet has to offer, and learning to see beyond the immediate.
After returning to New Zealand, she completed two years of diploma courses in Professional Photography, followed by a year-long position as Photographic Artist-in-Residence. During that time she researched and experimented with a wide variety of photographic techniques & genres, was invited to participate in several exhibitions, and continued honing her skills. She has discovered a deep and real satisfaction in transforming ideas into images, and in portraying her subjects with an honesty that brings out their intrinsic beauty.
Her current focus is on completing a series depicting invertebrates in all their unexpected glory, using as models specimens held in university and museum collections throughout the country. In addition, she works commercially, records aspects of her environment in photo-essay form, and in her spare time uses her cameras to document anything and anyone of interest.
